On a gloomy, cold Saturday afternoon, I decided to kill time and binge-watch some heartwarming movies.
I turned on my TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick and launched the Disney Plus app.
I decided to watch Coco and was five minutes into the movie when my friend gave me a phone call.
After speaking to him for a while, I went back into the living room and clicked the play button on the remote.
But, instead of resuming the movie, Disney Plus crashed.
I relaunched the app, but to my dismay, it didn’t let me stream anything.
Frustrated but determined to watch the movie, I scoured through several online articles and communities to find a fix.
After trying over a dozen fixes, here’s how I got back to enjoying one of my favorite Disney movies on Fire TV Stick:
If Disney Plus is not working on your Fire TV Stick, clear the app’s cache from the ‘Application Settings’ menu and relaunch the app.
Why is Disney Plus Not Working on My Fire TV Stick?
Disney Plus may not work on your Fire TV Stick due to a host of factors, including:
- Compatibility issues.
- Corrupt cache.
- Buggy software.
- Internet Connectivity Problems.
On top of these, there could be problems with the Disney Plus app, hindering the service from running smoothly.
Clear the Disney Plus App Cache
Your Disney Plus app stores a lot of data as cache to serve your content faster and to improve your general user experience.
However, regular app usage on a streaming device fills the cache memory quickly.
This can cause the app to slow down or (in the worst case) stop working completely.
You can resolve these problems (and prevent them from happening in the future) by clearing the cache memory of the Disney Plus app regularly.
To clear the cache of Disney Plus on a Fire TV Stick:
- Go to the Home screen on your Fire TV Stick.
- Choose Settings in the top right corner.
- Open Applications.
- Scroll down and choose Manage Installed Applications.
- Select Disney Plus.
- Choose Clear cache and confirm.
Too many cache files can also cause Disney Plus not to work on a Roku streaming device.
Restart Your Fire TV Stick
The software on your Fire TV Stick could be buggy, which can cause the Disney Plus app to act up.
Restarting the Fire TV Stick will resolve these glitches in an instant.
To restart your Fire TV Stick:
- Go to the Homepage on your Fire TV Stick.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Select My Fire TV.
- Find the Restart option and select it.
Alternatively, you can get rid of the software bugs by power cycling the Fire TV Stick.
To do so, disconnect it from the power source and reconnect it after at least sixty seconds.
Log Out and Log Back Into Your Disney Plus Account
Disney Plus can also stop working if your account is having trouble communicating with the servers on the current device.
Logging out of your user account and logging back in will help you fix this problem.
- Open the Disney Plus app.
- Navigate to the Settings menu.
- Find the Logout option and select it to sign out of the app.
- Close Disney Plus and relaunch it.
- Now, Log into your account.
If your Fire Stick remote is not working and blinking yellow, check its batteries and your Internet connection.
Check Your Network For Connection Issues
You won’t be able to enjoy a smooth experience on the Disney Plus app if you have a slow Internet speed.
Open the browser on your Fire TV Stick and go to Fast to perform an Internet speed test.
Note that you need at least 10 Mbps speed to watch HD content and a minimum of 25 Mbps to stream 4K content on the Disney Plus app.
If your Internet speed is slower than normal, I recommend power cycling your Wi-Fi router.
To power cycle the router, remove it from the power source and wait for at least one minute before plugging it back in.
Once done, launch the Disney Plus app on your Fire TV Stick and check if the app works normally.
Reinstall Disney Plus
If you have followed the above steps and failed to get Disney Plus working, uninstall the app and reinstall it back.
Reinstalling the Disney Plus app will clear out its temporary glitches and bugs.
To uninstall the Disney plus app from your Fire TV stick, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Settings menu on your Fire TV Stick.
- Select Applications.
- Choose Manage Installed Applications.
- Find and select the Disney Plus app.
- Click on the Uninstall button.
Once the app has been uninstalled, restart your Fire TV stick from the ‘Settings’ menu and open the ‘Amazon App store’ to reinstall Disney plus.
Reset Your Fire TV Stick to Factory Defaults
If all the above-mentioned solutions do not work, then the final step is to reset your Fire TV Stick to factory defaults.
Note that you will lose all apps and data after resetting the Fire TV Stick.
Resetting the Fire TV Stick is a straightforward process.
- Go to the Home screen on your Fire TV Stick.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Find My Fire TV.
- Search for the Reset to Factory Defaults option and select it.
If your Fire TV stick has stopped working and is unresponsive, you can reset it by holding the ‘Back and Right’ side of the ‘Navigation circle’ button for 10 seconds.
After the resetting process is completed, your Fire TV Stick will reboot to the setup screen.
Set up your Fire TV Stick according to your needs and install Disney Plus from the ‘Amazon App store’.
Enjoy the Latest Marvel Content
Disney Plus is a treat to watch and is my go-to streaming service for all of Pixar and Marvel content.
While having to fix streaming problems is not something you look forward to when trying to watch your favorite shows or movies, it need not be tasking.
It took me a while to fix Disney Plus on my Fire TV Stick, but it was quite straightforward.
All I had to do was clear the app cache, and I was back to enjoying Coco.
If it does not work for you, proceed with reinstalling the Disney Plus app on your Fire TV Stick.
In case everything fails to work, the final nail in the coffin is to reset your Fire TV Stick to factory defaults.
