How to Connect Peacock to Apple TV App

My Apple TV subscription has brought forth a huge shift in how I stream new content.

However, I have faced consistent issues while trying to stream Peacock on my Apple TV.

The Peacock app seems to make the TV slow while the streaming itself sometimes takes minutes of buffering to begin.

Last weekend, me and my friends decided to watch an episode of ‘Downtown Abbey’. We had a whole fun night planned but the Peacock app had others things in mind.

The app automatically logged me out multiple times and somehow made the Apple TV interface slow and laggy.

I decided I had had enough, and started looking for solutions on the internet. Turns out, I was not the only one with this issue.

I found multiple users on the internet complaining about similar issues. After talking to them and going through different forums, I finally found what was causing the problem.

The Peacock app is only accessible to users with a 4th Generation Apple TV or an Apple TV 4K connection. However, the app is still home to several bugs and the only workaround is to stream content via Chromecast, or AirBrowser.

Peacock App Only Works On Newer Apple TVs

Only Apple TV 4th generation and above support the Peacock app. In addition, the Apple TV 4K that runs tvOS 13 is also compatible with the app.

Peacock is not currently supported on older models of Apple TV.

However, this does not mean that it is impossible to access Peacock on older apple devices.

You can use other services including the AirBrowser, Chromecast, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.

However, note that many users have made it a point that Peacock is a poorly programmed app for Apple TV users at the moment and is known to cause multiple issues on all Apple devices.

This includes iPhones, 4th Generation Apple TVs, as well as the Apple TV 4K service.

Hence, the most straightforward workaround is to not stream the content on the app directly.

Using The Peacock App On Apple TV

If you have an Apple TV 4th generation or are using the Apple TV 4K, you can install the Peacock app from the App. Here’s how:

  • Go to the App store on your Apple TV
  • Type ‘Peacock’ in the search bar and click on the ‘download’ button next to the app.
  • Once the application has been downloaded and installed, the ‘open’ option will pop up.

Alternatively, you can also access the Peacock app from the home screen.

After launching the app, log in using your credentials. Once the process is complete, you can start streaming media via the app.

Stream Peacock Content Without Using The App

As mentioned, the fact that only the newer versions of Apple TV have access to the Peacock app need not be a major issue.

The best way to use Peacock with Apple TV is with the help of the AirBrowser.

Many Apple TV users claim that they use the AirBrowser even though their system is compatible with the Peacock app.

This is down to the various issues that users face while using the Peacock app on Apple TV.

Hence, in case of consistent issues even after following the steps below, users should simply switch to an alternative.

Restore Apple TV to Factory settings

For me, while troubleshooting the app, I found out that the issue was being caused by a corrupted update. Many other users have claimed the same.

If the problem is related to a corrupted update, you will have to reset your TV.

If you uninstall and reinstall the Peacock app, the saved cache might end up corrupting the reinstalled app as well.

To avoid that, you need to restore the Apple TV to factory settings. Here’s how:

  • Go to the “Services” tab on the TV homepage
  • Click on the “experiencing issues” button
  • Select the ‘Restore TV’ option and wait for the process to complete

Once the Apple TV is restored to factory settings, the cached files will be deleted. Now set up the TV again and reinstall the Peacock app.

Connecting Peacock to Apple TV

Currently, the Peacock app seems to regularly run into various issues when used on Apple TV.

Connecting Peacock to Apple TV is straightforward in itself. However, a corrupted update can force you to reset the whole device.

The most obvious workaround, in this case, is to stop using the Peacock app on the TV altogether.

Rather, opt for streaming Peacock content using other options such as Chromecast and AirBrowser.

Alternatively, users can try reinstalling the Peacock app after restoring their Apple TV to factory settings.

It is advised that you talk to Apple Support if the Peacock app continues to act up after following the above steps.
