If a Roku TV’s remote is lost or if your Roku remote is not working, there is still a way to turn the TV on and off.
The power button for Roku TVs is often located in inconspicuous places – such as the bottom of the TV.
This article will show you how to find it and detail two other ways to turn your TV on or off without the remote. Let’s get right to it.
To turn on Roku TV without using the remote, find and press the physical power button located at the bottom-center, side panel, or on the back panel of your Roku TV. Alternatively, you can use the Roku smartphone app to turn your Roku TV on or off without the standard remote. Read on to see the table we created to find the location of the power button on your Roku TV.
Press the Physical Power Button on Your Roku TV

This is the easiest and most direct way to turn your Roku TV on or off without a remote.
If you are reading this article, it is probably because you couldn’t locate it and not because your TV is not turning ON.
This is because the design trend among TVs (especially Roku TVs) is to hide the power button.
Since Roku TVs are made by more than a dozen manufacturers, this gets tricky.
Sometimes the power button is located behind a flap, on the back of the TV, or in some cases, behind on the sides.
To make your life simple, we dedicated multiple hours to digging up the manuals of all major Roku TV manufacturers to find out exactly where the power button is located on the TV.
It is worth pointing out that powering off the TV using the physical button or the remote only puts the Roku TV in a low-power standby mode.
It does not entirely turn the power off. To completely power off your TCL Roku TV, you need to unplug the power cable.

Almost all TCL Roku TVs have their power button on the bottom of the TV, hidden behind the white flap.
It is a little hard to spot, but once you lift or lay the TV down flat, you should be able to power on the TCL Roku TV without the remote.
Hisense
Hisense’s button layout has changed over multiple iterations. Therefore it could be on the bottom of the TV, on the left or right side of the back.
Sanyo
On the Sanyo Roku TVs, the buttons are located at the back along with the other ports. Surprisingly, it is pretty easy to find.

This one is interesting. Turns out JVC Roku TVs don’t have physical power buttons.

Use The Roku App As Remote Control
The alternative to powering your Roku TV on by pressing the physical power button is using the Roku smartphone app.
Whether your phone has an IR sensor, you can use IR and Wi-Fi to control your TV.
This is also a method we discussed to sync your Roku remote without pairing button.
The Roku app is available for both iOS and Android users. Here is how to do that:
- Download the official Roku app from the App Store or Play Store.
- Once you are in, it will search for nearby Roku devices.
- Once your Roku TV pops up, you can power on and off the TV by tapping the power button located at the top right of the app screen.
Note: We don’t recommend third-party apps to control your Roku TV.
I used a similar method to connect a Vizio TV to WiFi without the remote.
Find a Replacement Remote For Roku TV
If you have lost your Roku TV remote or is just not working correctly, you always have the option of using the Roku app, but it is never a long-term solution because it is a battery drain, and you might want to use your phone for other things.
So the best thing to do is buy a replacement remote. We recommend the official Roku voice remote because voice search makes navigating media much simpler.
Final Thoughts
Using a Roku remote may not be possible if you have misplaced it or having trouble with your batteries draining too fast.
