About a week ago, I wanted to check out the latest movies Hulu had to offer, so I opened up the app on my phone to browse through it.
Since I was opening the app after a long time, I had been logged out of my account.
No issue! All I had to do was log in.
However, when I entered my credentials, I was met with an error message saying, “Error: Your login has been blocked”.
I was confused, as this error message did not tell me why the error was being thrown at me or what I could do to resolve it.
I spent the next three hours going through the Hulu community forums, and what I found fixed the issue within minutes:
The Hulu login not working is usually due to a software glitch in the app. The easiest way to resolve the Hulu login not working is to reinstall the Hulu app.
Reinstall the Hulu App
A buggy or outdated Hulu app is the major reason why Hulu login does not work as intended.
Other times, there may be an issue with the app’s cache.
You can resolve all these problems by simply reinstalling the Hulu app.
For an Android device, open the “Play Store”, search for the Hulu app, and click “Uninstall”.
Once the process is complete, you will see the option to “Download” it on the same page.
On an iOS device, long-press the Hulu app until it starts jiggling.
Click the “X” that appears and “Uninstall” the app when prompted.
To reinstall the app, head to the “App Store”, search for Hulu, and “Install” the app.
For Windows 10 or later, press the “Windows key”, search for Hulu, and click on “Uninstall”.
To reinstall it, download the app from the Microsoft store.
If you have an Apple TV, select the Hulu app and hold the “Center” of the clickpad or touch surface until the app jiggles.
Press the “Play/Pause” button and select “Delete”.
To reinstall the app, open the “App Store” from the Home screen.
Search for Hulu and “Download” it.
If you own a Roku device, press the “Home” button and select the “Streaming Channels” tab to open the “Channel Store”.
Once done, look for Hulu and press “OK” on the remote. Select the “Remove” option.
To reinstall it, go to the Search bar and search for Hulu. Click on it and tap on “Add Channel”.
For a Fire TV, open the “Settings” tab on the Home screen, select the “Applications” tab, and open “Manage Installed Applications”.
Select the Hulu app and click on “Uninstall” when prompted.
To reinstall the app, search for Hulu either through the Search bar or by asking Alexa.
A page for Hulu should open where you will be given the option to “Download” it.
Reinstalling the Hulu app is also known to fix Hulu error code 503.
Enable Location Services
The Hulu app needs access to your location from time to time to check if you are changing your home network in order to prevent account sharing.
If your location services are disabled, Hulu can sprout the login error.
This issue is only seen on mobile devices, though.
Follow these steps to give Hulu location access:
For iOS
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on the Privacy tab.
- Click Location Services and turn it on.
For Android
- Swipe down from the Notification panel twice to reveal the Quick Access settings.
- Tap the Location icon.
- Allow Location access when the prompt appears.
Connect to IPv4
If you are using Hulu on a Windows computer, you can get a login error due to your Internet Protocol version.
For Hulu to work smoothly, you need to ensure that your device is connected to the IPv4 protocol (not IPv6).
To do so:
- Press the Windows + R key on your keyboard.
- Type ncpa.cpl in the text field and press Enter.
- Right-click on your Network connection.
- Left-click on Properties.
- Make sure Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) is enabled.
- Uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and tap on OK.
Check if Your Hulu Subscription is Part of a Bundle
If your Hulu subscription is part of a bundle like the Disney-ESPN-Hulu one, you would have to use the same account to log in across all three platforms.
This will also be the case if your Hulu subscription is a part of a bundle with your TV or Internet plan.
Try logging in with the account you have with your ISP or TV provider.
Check the Status of Your Hulu Subscription
The cryptic nature of the “Your login has been blocked” error message on Hulu leaves people completely in the dark.
That means if you face such an error, you have to consider all possible reasons and solutions.
Your Hulu subscription being over is one possible cause.
To check the status of your Hulu subscription, follow the given steps:
Note: Try this if you face the login problem only on the Hulu app.
- Visit Hulu via a web browser.
- Log into your account.
- Navigate to the Upcoming Charges tab.
- Click on View Charges.
- Renew your Subscription if it has expired, and try logging into the Hulu app.
Check the Status of Your Account Activation
If your Hulu subscription is part of a bundle or another third-party service, you will need to activate the account to resolve its login error.
If you have subscribed to a Disney-ESPN-Hulu bundle, you will need to activate it when signing up or by using the link emailed to you.
To activate your account:
- Open the Disney+ app and Log into your account.
- Select Billing Details.
- Click on the Hulu tab.
- Choose Watch Now and Create a new Hulu account.
For Spotify Premium-Hulu bundle owners:
- Open your Spotify Account page.
- Select Account Overview.
- Click on Activate Hulu and complete the prompts.
If you got Hulu access as part of a Sprint plan:
- Open your Sprint account page.
- Go to Services and enable Hulu.
- Click on the link sent to your phone number to activate Hulu.
- Once done, select the plan that you want.
Reset Your Hulu Password
We are all humans and tend to forget things every now and then.
If you forget the password to your Hulu account, you won’t be able to log in.
But there is no need to panic, as you can get back into your account by resetting the password via the following steps:
- Launch the Hulu app or visit the Hulu website.
- Click on Forgot Password.
- Enter the Email address linked to your Hulu account.
- Check the Inbox and Spam folders of the email address you just entered for Hulu mail.
- Click on the Account recovery link.
Note: According to Hulu, it can take up to 15 minutes to receive the mail.
Once you have reset your password, you should be able to log into your account without hassle.
Get Back into Your Hulu Account
Hulu is a highly popular streaming service with a sizable content library and quite a few useful features, like Live TV and DVR, but their dedication to complicating things for the end user can be irritating.
The Hulu login not working was one such irritating experience for me.
Fortunately, I resolved this problem by reinstalling the Hulu app.
If that does not work for you, make sure your Hulu account is active and check your Internet Protocol version.
If none of them fix your problem, you should contact Hulu Support.
