Vizio TV Audio Out of Sync: Here’s How I Fixed It

As a huge movie buff, my Vizio TV has proven to be a great investment.

I regularly use the Smartcast feature to stream OTT content from my phone, on my Vizio TV.

Last weekend, I sat back after a tiring day and decided to rewatch my favourite movie “Fight Club”. I had already downloaded it on my phone.

However, moments into the movie, I realized that my Vizio TV audio was out of sync.

I relaunched the Smartcast window but it did not work. I also tried playing other videos and rebooted my Vizio TV but to no avail.

Frustrated but determined to solve the problem, I spent hours scrounging through online guides and articles and finally found a fix that worked.

The Vizio TV audio being out of sync can be fixed by fine-tuning audio synchronization and disabling the surround sound feature of the Vizio TV. This can be done from the TV’s audio settings tab.

Why is my Vizio TV audio out of sync?

The audio-syncing issue can happen for a variety of reasons, including:

  • The sound of the broadcast is delayed for a second or more after the video. Try changing the broadcast source.
  • There is a bad connection between the cable or satellite setup box and the Vizio smart TV.
  • If you are using a DVD or Blu-ray Disc player connected to your smart TV, the disc itself might be faulty. Try using another disc.
  • If you are using a home theatre system connected with an optical cable cord, there might be a requirement for manual adjustment to get the sound right.
  • Improper audio settings on your Vizio TV.

In this article, I have explained in detail how to tackle the issues mentioned above.

Turn Off Digital Enhancement

Vizio has introduced a number of features meant to enhance the audio experience of any media played on the Vizio TV.

These include features such as Surround sound, Dialogue enhancer, and Levelling. In most cases, these settings are the primary culprits behind the audio delay and desync issues.

To disable the digital enhancement settings:

  • Press the Menu button on the TV’s remote
  • Click on the Audio settings option
  • Turn the toggle for the Surround Sound, Dialogue enhancer, and Levelling settings off (Note: These can be found under the Digital enhancement settings tab)

Turn On Variable Analog Audio Out Setting

If you are using an external speaker with your VizioTV and are facing audio delta issues, then this step is for you.

By default, the analog audio out setting on the VizioTV is set as ‘Fixed Out Of The Box’. This might result in an audio delay.

To fix the issue, follow these steps:

  • Press the Menu button on the TV’s remote
  • Click on the Audio settings option
  • Toggle the Analog Audio Out setting from Fixed to Variable

Change The Lip-Sync Settings

The lip-sync settings on Vizio TV allow you to manually control the sound delay.

In case of a sound delay, you can change the audio playback speed by managing the lip-sync settings to the correct positive value.

In case the audio is quicker than the video, users need to feed in the correct negative value so that the discrepancy between the sound and the video is manually corrected.

To fix the issue, follow these steps:

  • Press the Menu button on the TV’s remote
  • Click on the Audio settings option
  • Go to the lip-sync settings and change audio speed according to the delay

Fixing Vizio TV audio being out of sync

In conclusion, there are multiple fixes that can help solve the issue, including turning off the digital enhancer and switching analog audio to a variable.

It must be noted that out of the above, the lip-sync settings are basically a temporary solution to the issue.

The settings are merely helping the user adjust the audio so that it sounds acceptable, although the audio itself might still be out of sync.

The lip-sync settings might need to be adjusted multiple times depending on the media you are playing.

Additionally, the exact value that will solve the issue may vary depending on the specific TV model and the audio that is being played.

However, if there is no sound at all on your Vizio TV, there are other fixes for the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main cause of sound delay on Vizio TVs?

The main cause of sound delay on Vizio TVs is often due to the digital enhancer settings, such as Surround sound, Dialogue enhancer, and Leveling, which attempt to tweak the software equalizer settings but can work against the system and lead to audio delay and desync issues.

How can I fix the sound delay on my Vizio TV?

To fix sound delay on a Vizio TV, try turning off all digital enhancer settings, switching the analog audio out setting from fixed to variable, and performing a power cycle on the TV. Additionally, you can try adjusting the lip-sync adjustment settings on your TV.

Will turning off digital enhancer settings affect the quality of my audio?

Turning off digital enhancer settings may affect the potential enhancements the settings promise, but it is a recommended fix for solving sound delay issues on Vizio TVs.
