Vizio TV No Sound: These Fixes Finally Worked

Audio is a really important part of the streaming experience.

I value audio so much that I would rather watch a video with sub-par picture quality but good audio, as opposed to a video with amazing picture quality but bad, distorted audio.

That being said, I would still go for bad audio over absolutely none, which is why I was annoyed when my Vizio TV started streaming with no sound.

At first, I fiddled with the remote and even rebooted my TV, but in vain.

Feeling defeated, I hit Google for help guides and community forums for a solution to this problem.

But then I remembered that this wasn’t the first time I had to fix this issue.

When my LG TV had no sound a few months ago, I had to follow very similar steps.

After hours of troubleshooting, I was able to find a fix that got my Vizio TV’s sound back to normal.

Here’s how to get back to enjoying your Vizio TV to the fullest:

The Vizio TV No Sound problem can easily be fixed by power cycling the TV. To do so, switch off your Vizio TV, unplug it from the power source, wait for 60 seconds before plugging it back in, and switch it on.

Check External Audio Before Trying Anything Else

One possible reason for getting no sound on your Vizio TV is that you may have connected a headphone or speaker wire to your TV and forgot to remove it.

In such a case, the audio signal may be going to a device that is muted or not in range.

Check the AUX port of your TV and disconnect audio devices that are not in use.

Power Cycle Your Vizio TV

I found the easiest fix for the ‘No sound’ glitch on my Vizio TV was to power cycle it.

To power cycle your Vizio TV:

  1. Turn off the TV.
  2. Unplug it from the power source.
  3. Wait for about 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and Switch it on.

Power cycling helps in getting rid of several software bugs and drains any residual power from the TV.

Once you have plugged back the TV, play the video you were watching earlier, and it should work as intended.

Try these 7 DIY steps if your Vizio TV won’t turn on.

Update Your Vizio TV’s Software

Sometimes, a software glitch can cause issues with the audio of your Vizio TV.

Updating your TV to the latest build is a sure-shot way of fixing such a glitch.

Usually, if your Vizio TV is connected to the Internet, it will automatically check for and install new software updates.

Sometimes, this auto-updater is interrupted, so it’s worth trying to update the TV manually.

To update your Vizio TV manually:

  1. Press the V button on the TV remote.
  2. Select System from the menu.
  3. Choose Check for Updates.
  4. If an update is available, Install it.

Your TV will restart a couple of times during the download and installation of the updates.

Factory Reset Your Vizio TV

There is a possibility that you may have accidentally enabled or disabled something in the ‘Settings’ menu of your Vizio TV, which caused an issue with its audio output.

If you can’t pinpoint the exact changes, you can roll back to default settings by factory resetting the TV.

Note: A factory reset will delete all of your settings, preferences, and downloaded apps. You will also be logged out of any service accounts.

To reset your TV:

  1. Click on the Menu button on the TV remote.
  2. Select the System tab.
  3. Find Reset & Admin and select it.
  4. Click on Reset TV to Factory Defaults

Factory Reset Your Vizio TV Without Remote

In case you have lost your Vizio TV remote or it’s unresponsive, you can reset the TV using its Power button.

You can find your Vizio TV’s power button on its bottom, side, or back panel.

  1. Switch on your TV using the Power button. Depending on your model, the power button should be at the bottom or on the right-hand side of your Vizio TV.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down and Source buttons simultaneously. Both will be located at the back of the TV, in the same button cluster.
  3. When prompted, press and hold the Input button for about 10 seconds. It should also be located behind the TV.

The TV will turn off and start rebooting.

If you still get no sound, you can connect AirPods to your Vizio TV as a workaround.

No More Silent Drama

Vizio TVs are some of the best smart streaming devices out there in the market.

They come with banger features like Wi-Fi 6E, HDR, and a built-in voice assistant, offering tremendous value in a holistic package.

My time with Vizio TV has been quite delightful, which is why when I faced the ‘No sound’ glitch, I was quite annoyed.

Thankfully, the issue was resolved when I power-cycled my device.

If power cycling doesn’t work for you, factory resetting the TV is your ultimate trick.
